Iconic house vocalist Billie Ray Martin released her first soul album, The Soul Tapes, this May 2016. Having previously worked with a range of genres including house, disco and pop, Billie Ray’s new album is the culmination of a decade-long creative urge to return to soul. Written with and inspired by producer Jon Tiven, The Soul Tapes consist of original tracks and two covers. Released on self-run imprint Disco Activisto, the record was sponsored by a successful pledge music campaign that received over double its goal. The Soul Tapes was covered in Pop Dose, Big Shot Mag, Song Writing Magazine, and Phil Marriott, and the album’s single “Strongheaded Woman” premiered on Music-News.
Download the premiere single Strongheaded Woman or get the album on Bandcamp or at your local record store. Billie Ray is performing a series of live solo or full band shows at the Museum of Modern Art/MOMA in New York, Jazz Cafe in London and Digital Nightclub in Newcastle among others.
