Istanbul to Berlin producer, performer, and DJ Gizem Oruç aka 6zm is a long-time collaborator of YMA since our Partial Eclipse of the <3 live improv’ at Berghain. We have called on them for events with Moog, Orchestral Tools, Superbooth, TOA… as techno and electro DJ, multi-genre producer, electronic and acoustic live performer, and music tech educator.
With master’s degrees in both chemistry and sonic arts, 6zm blends scientific precision with creative exploration, producing music that transcends genre and tradition, and spans three continents and many collaborative projects. Their early EPs Blurred (2014) and Brain Dance (2015), introduced their innovative approach to sound design and helped carving out a unique niche in the world of live and electronic music performance.
Then in 2016, they partnered up with Bluu FLWR while participating to famed USA OneBeat Residency, and went on to release a handful of inspired R&B singles, some about to be re-edited for new releases in 2025. 6zm is since an adept of collabs and has been a member of several musical outfits including Gazino Neukölln, Ruşen Can Acet, Sari Kantoron, and Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu. They are currently part of the bands Nilipek (booked at SxSW 2025) and Anatolian x Balkan fusion renowned band Schnieke as guitarist, and regularly collaborate with DJ Grace Kelly to release dancefloor singles.
Following their relocation from Istanbul to Berlin, they made the soundtrack of internationally acclaimed documentary #resistayol (2015), which highlights the queer community in Istanbul during the Gezi Protests. They have since become a community organiser at Oya in Kreuzberg, Berlin, and at dif e.V., and they often bring their blend of cultural motifs and club beats to events such as the International Queer Pride, Dyke March in Berlin, or Istanbul Pride as an emblem of queer BIPOC community activism and artistic experimentation.
6zm’s work has been featured on Barbi(e)turix, NBHAP, and Resident Advisor who praised their singles Dots and Over the Wastelands, plus on dublab, FC, Reboot FM, and THF radio stations, and more. They have also performed at Berlin’s Fête de la Musique, Silent Green, SO36, SchwuZ, Vienna’s Waves festival in 2024, and Volksbühne, among many other venues and festivals, and have appeared on several compilations including Detroit x Berlin with their remix contest winning track Back to Pluto with Detroit’s Tiffadelic, Listen to Berlin, and Soli Tunes.
